Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 6, 2026
TalkTrack is built with a privacy-first approach. We collect as little data as possible and process everything locally on your device.
What TalkTrack Does
TalkTrack is a Chrome extension that creates a floating teleprompter window using the Document Picture-in-Picture API. Optional features include voice-synced scrolling and a filler word coach, both powered by speech recognition.
Data We Store
TalkTrack uses Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) to save your preferences:
- Your script text (so it persists between sessions)
- Font size, scroll speed, and toggle settings
- Coach settings (min/max WPM thresholds)
This data stays on your device. It is never transmitted to any server.
Microphone Access
If you enable Voice Sync or Filler Word Coach, TalkTrack requests microphone access. Here's what happens with your audio:
- Audio is processed using your browser's built-in Web Speech Recognition API
- In Chrome, speech recognition is processed by Google's servers to convert speech to text. This is a standard Chrome browser feature, not something TalkTrack controls
- TalkTrack itself does not record, store, or transmit any audio data
- The recognized text is used in real-time to calculate your speaking pace (WPM) and detect filler words, then discarded
- Microphone access stops immediately when you close the teleprompter window
You can use TalkTrack without microphone access. Voice Sync and Filler Word Coach are optional features that are off by default.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- No analytics or tracking scripts
- No cookies
- No personal information (name, email, account)
- No usage telemetry
- No third-party integrations
Permissions
TalkTrack requests these Chrome extension permissions:
- activeTab — To inject the teleprompter into your current tab (required for the Document PiP API)
- scripting — To run the teleprompter code in your current tab
- storage — To save your script and settings locally
Third Parties
TalkTrack does not share any data with third parties. The only external service involved is Chrome's speech recognition (when you enable voice features), which is handled by the browser itself.
